Chris Jericho is the man of many gimmicks and near-limitless reinventions over the past three decades. He is loyal to a fault to whichever company he is a part of and that includes AEW right now. Now it appears that he is actually Tony Khan’s closest confidant in AEW.
CM Punk is undoubtedly one of the most controversial professional wrestlers in the business right now. He drew the ire of many after his rant during the post-AEW All Out media scrum and the subsequent backstage brawl with The Elite afterwards. He has been away from AEW television ever since.
It was reported that AEW is trying to plan out CM Punk’s return and that there was a meeting planned between CM Punk and Chris Jericho, to determine whether the two parties can co-exist in the company.
While speaking during a recent PWTorch audio show, Wade Keller stated that the upcoming meeting between CM Punk and Chris Jericho will have FTR as a neutral party. It was stated that Jericho is now Tony Khan’s closest confidant.
“The idea being FTR [saying] You know, we’re pitching the idea let’s moderate, we’re a neutral party, and we can help let Jericho and Punk work things out…Jericho is the closest confidant of Tony Khan right now, when it comes to things that include him, but go beyond him…I don’t know how often [but] there’s times where it’s like, ‘where’s Tony?’ ‘Oh, he’s in Chris’ hotel room, or he’s off in this restaurant booth talking to Chris’ or wherever they talk. And it’s not just about Chris Jericho stuff, like Jericho is a sounding board. There are people in that company who tell Tony, ‘listen to Chris, listen to Chris, he’s been around.’ You can’t trust anybody 100% but Chris isn’t like some secret agent who’s sabotaging AEW.
I think he’s loyal to AEW, that’s what people say at this point. And so I think FTR and Punk are aware of that.”
CM Punk will return on AEW’s new two-hour show called ‘Collision’ this year, which might keep Punk and Jericho separate if the meeting does not go well. Punk’s return will also happen very soon. We will have to wait and see how the meeting will turn out as it will be very important for AEW’s future.
