There is no doubt that Bryan Danielson is one of the most established names in the world of professional wrestling right now. He is also viewed as a very harmless vegan outside the squared circle and largely maintains that image as well. That said, Danielson can sometimes veer into the unsettling and it appears he did just that during a recent interview, expressing his desire to see a female wrestler who doesn’t shave her body hair.

As fans know by now, professional wrestling is still largely predominated by men and there are quite a few double standards when it comes to how a man should be dressed in a ring compared to a woman.

While appearing on the latest episode of the Nikki & Brie Show, Bryan Danielson and his wife Brie Garcia discussed beauty standards for men and women in the current pro wrestling climate.

Bryan Danielson pointed out how he never shaves his legs and how people are completely okay with that. Danielson then stated that he wants to see a female wrestler who doesn’t shave her body hair.

“You are expected to shave your legs. If you don’t, you’re gross. I have never once shaved my legs, and nobody has ever commented on it. I go out and pretend to fight in spandex underwear. I’m essentially wearing underwear, and nobody says anything about me not shaving my legs.

To any female who is a professional wrestler or who would like to be a professional wrestler, I think it would be very interesting to have a female who didn’t shave their legs at all or armpits or anything, and they didn’t do it to look mean and like a monster. It would be better if they were more attractive and they said, ‘I’m not going to conform to what society expects from me.’ I realize I’m a white guy talking about feminism [laughs]. How cool would that be?

How could would it be for Birdie [their daughter] to have an example of that in her life where it’s cool. Here is this person who is not conforming to what society says is attractive or what women should do. This is how humans are made, and nobody had a problem with it for 100,000 years, until the last 50 or 75 years. If there are any female wrestlers or potential female wrestlers listening to this, just an idea

Bryan Danielson truly has interesting ideas in his mind all the time, but some fans feel he should keep those ideas to himself. Regardless, Danielson has a right to his own opinion and that’s all that matters.

What’s your take on what Bryan Danielson said? Do you think he is right? Sound off in the comments!
