The ongoing affects of COVID-19 continues to impact the world, and professional wrestling is no exception.
AEW ring announcer Justin Roberts recently announced on social media that he had tested positive for the virus, which would keep him from Wednesday night’s taping of AEW Dynamite.
Roberts shared a photo of four positive at-home COVID tests, along with a caption that joked about social distancing in 2020. AEW stars responded with well wishes for Roberts in the comments section, including AEW referee Aubrey Edwards, AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill, and independent star Taya Valkyrie, who has recently started working with AEW.
“The look when you’re absolutely..positive [sic] you can’t fly to work for a few more days,” Roberts wrote in the post’s caption. “Social distancing from ‘Dynamite’ tomorrow like it’s 2020, look forward to watching on TBS 8/7PM and getting back next week!”
Roberts has had a successful second wind in his career working with AEW after being released from WWE in 2014. In recent months, he has taken on more responsibilities at AEW, including producing from ringside.
It’s unfortunate to hear that Justin Roberts has tested positive for COVID-19, especially considering the ongoing impact that the virus has had on the world. What kind of impact do you think this will have on AEW Dynamite and Roberts’ role in the company moving forward? Leave a comment below.
