Jeff Hardy’s WWE Title Run Worried People Backstage

Jeff Hardy is a true veteran in the pro wrestling world, having worked in various promotions in his career. Hardy has always managed to reinvent himself and stay relevant throughout his pro wrestling career. Unfortunately, Jeff Hardy’s personal demons plagued his career as well as his life. There was a time when Hardy was the WWE Champion and it appears that title run worried people backstage in WWE.

Throughout his career in WWE, Jeff Hardy has achieved great success, winning championship titles as both a solo wrestler and as part of the Hardy Boyz tag team alongside his brother Matt Hardy.

He also won the WWE Championship as well as the World Heavyweight Championship in his career, but they were never long reigns whatsoever. This led people to believe that his personal struggles affected his title runs, especially his WWE Title win at Armageddon 2008.

While speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy talked about costing his brother the WWE Championship at the 2009 Royal Rumble, bringing an end to Jeff Hardy’s WWE Title run, which lasted only 42 days. Matt Hardy revealed that Jeff Hardy’s WWE Title reign was supposed to be longer.

“People were loving him. Some were pitching to delay the turn to WrestleMania [25].”

Matt Hardy revealed that some wanted him to turn heel on his brother in the main event of WrestleMania. However, Triple H was not in favor of Jeff Hardy having a long title reign and that The Charismatic Enigman worried people backstage.

”Vince [McMahon] was open to it … but there were some people who probably were worried about Jeff having too long of a run. I get where Hunter was coming from … especially with some of the stuff Jeff did.”

WWE also never turned Jeff Hardy heel because he was not reliable. Regardless, Hardy is now back in AEW after a long hiatus due to a DUI arrest and now fans simply hope he stays out of trouble.
