CM Punk’s situation with AEW is a very interesting one indeed. He can do a lot of things with his career, but it appears that an AEW return is also very likely at this stage in the game.

Reports came out saying that CM Punk has pitched ideas for his return to television. In fact, Chris Jericho and Punk also met along with FTR and Tony Khan to see if anything could be worked out. They had a meeting, but we’re still waiting to see what they said. In the meantime, it appears that the result was positive.

Andrew Zarian said on Wrestling Observer Live that CM Punk’s return to AEW is “essentially happening.” At this point, the parties involved as just going to work things out, and it appears that is going to happen.

“The story here is that CM Punk is essentially happening. I know for a fact that Warner has been told he is coming back. They are very much aware of the situation.” Zarian went on to state that talks between Punk and the Elite have yet to take place, with Matt and Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks particularly reluctant to work with the former WWE star.

It was previously reported that Kenny Omega might be more open to working with CM Punk than the Young Bucks. After all, Punk only really dragged the Young Bucks during that media scrum.

CM Punk’s return to AEW could be a big deal for the company. It might also be seen as a massive mistake later on. Only time will tell what AEW ends up doing with CM Punk, but the book doesn’t seem closed for him in Tony Khan’s company by a long shot.

What’s your take on CM Punk’s status with AEW? Do you think he will become AEW World Champion again? Sound off in the comments!
