Contracts in pro wrestling are very interesting, especially with the constantly shifting landscape. Tony Khan realizes that there is demand for some of his stars, and he wanted to make sure that Brian Cage didn’t get away.
Brian Cage’s contract status was a very interesting point to consider, as the Embassy retained the ROH six-man tag titles. Then he showed up on AEW television to merge with Swerve Strickland. Now, Cage is sticking around AEW and ROH for the long haul.
Fightful Select dropped a very interesting note about Brian Cage’s latest AEW contract. He is locked into 5 years, but Tony Khan could keep him around for a 6th if he chooses that option.
Fightful can confirm Wrestling Observer’s report that Brian Cage’s contract is a five-year deal. However, we can also confirm that AEW holds a sixth-year option on the deal.
Brian Cage could offer a lot to AEW, and Tony Khan obviously realizes that as well. Only time will tell if he ever picks up another title in AEW, but he will have plenty of time to make that happen now.
Brian Cage is also 39-years-old, so his new AEW contract will keep him until he is, at least, 44. That is far outside WWE’s usual interest range when they are considering talent, so odds are he also gave up on ever venturing to WWE with this contract signing as well.
