CM Punk is interested in a return to pro wrestling, but the jury is still out regarding whether The Elite is even interested in working with him. Now, we have a bit more information on the situation, and a possible spoiler as well.
AEW suspended CM Punk from television, and he had to recover from an injury. Bringing him back into the mix might take a bit more finesse than The Elite, who were able to make their return and reinsert themselves into the trios title picture.
Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that, “CM Punk has expressed his willingness to return to AEW, and it seems like the pieces are being put into place for it to happen.” That being said, any plans can change at this time, but it appears that there might be a working plan to get Punk back on television.
Those that we’ve spoken to confirmed that CM Punk has been hoping to work with Kenny Omega and Young Bucks, but we’ve heard of no contact between the two sides. The last we’d heard, The Elite were not keen on the possibility of working with him. AEW sources indicated that Punk had been trying to push for a meeting between everyone for quite a while, but we haven’t heard if any progress had been made. It’s worth noting that Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are in the middle of negotiating new contracts with AEW.
It was reported that there was “a meeting planned between CM Punk and Chris Jericho.” Those two have had issues with each other in the past, but they are willing to see if they can work together.
Anything can change at this point, because pro wrestling is incredibly unpredictable. If anything, it should be a very interesting time in the next few months to be an AEW fan.
