WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle is certainly one of the best pro wrestlers to have ever been a part of the professional wrestling world. He might be retired now, but that doesn’t mean Angle does not keep tabs on what goes on in the business lately. Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39, which truly broke fans. Now it seems Kurt Angle himself believes fans will lose interest in WWE after Reigns’ win over Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes was booked as the chosen one, who would finally dethrone Roman Reigns and end his reign of terror. Many fans believed it was definitely the only outcome that could have happened at WrestleMania 39.
The Tribal Chief defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39 Sunday. In a shocking turn of events, Rhodes couldn’t defeat Roman Reigns. This ended up outraging fans in a huge way.
While speaking on the Kurt Angle Show Podcast, Kurt Angle talked about WWE’s decision to have The Tribal Chief defeat The American Nightmare. Angle stated that he believes fans will lose interest in WWE after Roman Reigns beat Cody Rhodes.
“I’m not going to beat up on Roman Reigns because he is the man he deserves to be. We’re in a time now where if you’re a champion for three years, that’s a little long. It’s just too long. Because we’re not in territories anymore. When you were in territories, you weren’t on TV every week. So fans had to come to see you at the arenas, and you’d only be in that city one day a week. So they only saw wrestling one day a week back then when they were champion for six, eight years.
Now Roman Reigns has gone on; it looks like he’s gonna have to hold the title for another few years. The thing is, he’s on TV every week, sometimes twice a week, and then you know, a pay-per-view every month. It’s just a lot. I don’t believe the ratings are gonna go down, but I do believe some people are going to lose interest because they’re not making other wrestlers. You know, Roman has an opportunity to make a wrestler, he could have made Cody into a megastar, which Cody is already a star, but he would have been a mega-star if he won at WrestleMania. That’s just my opinion.”
Cody Rhodes will also address his WWE future on the upcoming episode of Monday Night RAW. Regardless, this decision will always be seen as a huge mistake by many fans and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
