During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about Jay White’s situation a bit. He said that it’s a surprise that White ended up in AEW, because he could always use the company’s partnership with NJPW to go back there as well. WWE also wanted him, but it was Jay White’s choice to pick Tony Khan instead.
“I’m surprised because if he’s with AEW, he could go back to New Japan in theory, but he lost those matches that said he couldn’t.
“WWE was after him. It was his choice between the two sides, and this was the side he chose.
“It’s a feather in the cap of AEW and Tony Khan – he got the guy. That’s a good thing for AEW, now they have to use him the right way.”
Jay White could be a big player for AEW, but it all depends on how he is used. There are a lot of options for him in Tony Khan’s company, both in AEW and ROH.
WWE is also going through a lot of changes right now, both good and bad. Vince McMahon is back in a position of power, but it took his company merging with the UFC before that could happen. There are a lot of unanswered questions in the new Endeavor merger, including how Vince McMahon is going to handle his return to power.
Jay White could offer a lot to AEW. After all, he has a ton of potential and pro wrestling ability. Only time will tell how far he makes it in AEW, but it seems that it was his call to pick Tony Khan’s company over WWE.
