WWE Pitched John Cena vs Cody Rhodes Match

John Cena and Cody Rhodes both walked into WrestleMania 39 with championships in their sights, but neither were able to win. Cena lost to Austin Theory on Saturday, and Cody fell to Roman Reigns on Sunday, but there was a plan for a minute to let those two battle it out.

Sean Sapp reported behind Fightful’s paywall that Cody Rhodes vs John Cena was a pitched match. It’s unclear why they went another direction, but this was a match that WWE wanted to see even after Cody suffered his pectoral injury.

The plan for Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns to have a match was planned last Summer, after there were some internal pitches for Rhodes to wrestle John Cena, even after his injury.

Cody Rhodes and John Cena had a special moment during RAW in Boston. Rhodes later revealed that he told Cena that he calls dibs on his next WWE match. That is when John Cena told Cody that he can’t promise that will happen.

Only time will tell when John Cena comes back to WWE. He is already onto his next project at this point. Hopefully, we haven’t seen the last of John Cena, because his name still brings a ton of attention to the company.
