WWE WrestleMania 39 so far has been an eventful affair, with many exciting matches and moments for fans to enjoy. One of the most talked-about topics leading up to the event was the possibility of a match between Roman Reigns and The Rock. While that match did not come to fruition, Reigns has now commented on how close it came to happening.

While speaking with Ariel Helwani on BT Sport, Reigns was asked directly about the possibility of facing The Rock at WrestleMania 39. However, Reigns refused to provide a direct answer and instead deferred to his Special Counsel, Paul Heyman.

“I don’t really know, that’s more of a Heyman thing,” Reigns said. “Some of the stuff, I don’t necessarily want on my plate. So that’s why having a Special Counsel is so brilliant because we’re able to sift through things, fill through the things that I need to worry about and the things that I don’t need to worry about.”

Reigns’ comments suggest that while a match between him and The Rock was certainly discussed, it was ultimately decided that it was not the right move for Reigns or for WWE at this time. It’s unclear if the match will ever happen, but Reigns seems content to focus on his current rivalries and matches.

Following WrestleMania 39 Saturday, The Rock took to Twitter to send a message of support to Reigns and his family, The Bloodline. The Rock hinted at the possibility of crossing paths with The Bloodline in the future, but did not provide any concrete details.

“I gotta tell you, I’m so excited for not only all the matches but especially the main event with my cousin Roman Reigns, the Universal Champion. And to my family, the entire Bloodline – Jey, Jimmy, Solo – we’re so proud of you guys. Kick a** and electrify SoFi Stadium. Do what you do, it is in our blood. And who knows, maybe, just maybe, down the road, I’ll see you in person. Maybe. I’ll just leave it at that.”

While Reigns vs. The Rock did not happen at WrestleMania 39, Reigns is set to headline the event against Cody Rhodes. The match is sure to be an exciting one, and Reigns remains one of the most dominant and compelling figures in WWE today.

What do you think about Roman Reigns’ decision to not provide a direct answer about a potential match against The Rock at WrestleMania 39? Do you think it was the right decision for his character’s storyline? Leave a comment below.
