Kevin Owens returned to his prize-fighting roots, which has been beneficial for him over the last year. But KO has a different opinion about the year 2022, which he believes belongs to no other than his best friend, Sami Zayn, and his friends-turned rivals, The Usos.
Sami Zayn and the entire Bloodline have been at the center of attraction for the better part of last year. Their storyline was not only regarded as one of the hottest things going on in WWE, but even established Zayn as a top fan favorite.
On the flip side, Kevin Owens rode the wave of success last year around this time. The Prizefighter was in the main event of WrestleMania 38 Night 1, wrestling against one of his idols and greatest WWE superstars of all time, Stone Cold Steve Austin. KO recently reflected on his past WrestleManias, and he seemed excited about the upcoming one during an interview with Pat Laprade of TVA Sports.
“In my head, it was going to be hard to beat Sami and me (at WrestleMania 37) just because of the history we had,” he said. “I thought it would probably be the biggest WrestleMania in terms of emotions and nostalgia. And yet, the year after, look what happens! It’s another moment at the same level.
The last three WrestleMania are unimaginable. You go back 10 years in time and no one would have thought that we would have had a match against each other at Mania. You go back 20 years in time and nobody would have thought that Kevin Steen would have fought against Stone Cold.”
Furthermore, Kevin Owens even stated that his tag team match at this year’s WrestleMania is the second most anticipated bout of this year. Moreover, he went on to claim that Sami Zayn and The Usos are the reason for it and had the best year in 2022.
“When we started in WWE, there was a small hope that we would fight as a team, maybe even at WrestleMania. Then we did it in 2018 against Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. Except this time it’s for the Tag Team Championship, in the biggest WWE story in six months.
Apart from the Roman vs. Cody match, we are the most anticipated match and I say that with all humility, but also with confidence. There are probably people who are more looking forward to our match than the one between Roman and Cody, because of the story and because of the work the Usos and Sami have done to get to where we are. No one has done a better job in the last year than these three guys. Again, I don’t see how I’m going to be able to beat that next year.”
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are slated to battle The Usos in a high-stakes tag team match for the Undisputed WWE tag team titles at WrestleMania 39. With so much popularity for each of them, there is major speculation that the match could end up being the main event for Night 1 of the show.
