With Adam Cole’s triumphant in-ring return on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, it is likely fans forgot the landscape of the promotion just a few months ago in June 2022. At that time, a storyline was brewing between the former Undisputed Era trio of Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly and The Elite was in the works. Now it seems Adam Cole revealed nixed plans for the feud prior to his absence.
The Undisputed Elite were more or less destined to be on a collision course with The Elite after the former faction turned on the latter. However, due to injuries sustained by Cole and O’Reilly and Fish’s departure from the company, the angle fizzled out before it could really take off.
While speaking with Comicbook.com, Adam Cole confirmed that those plans had been scrapped for the time being, but added that it doesn’t mean they won’t revisit the idea in the future.
Adam Cole explained that wrestling is a constantly evolving landscape, and plans can change at any moment due to the physical nature of the business.
“I think so (those Undisputed Elite vs. The Elite plans have been scrapped). It’s one of those situations where, obviously, wrestling is dangerous and things change all the time. There may have been a couple of ideas as far as where we were going months and months ago.
We thought, okay, this recovery process is going to be a little bit quicker. But as time went on and we learned how serious this injury was, obviously things had to pivot and change as well.
That’s kind of the way wrestling is where things change often and you just kind of have to roll with the punches.
We definitely had at least a couple of ideas back then but things have changed now. But it doesn’t mean that we won’t play into that down the line.”
Adam Cole had a triumphant return to the squared circle on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. We will have to wait and see whether The Undisputed Elite vs The Elite feud will happen somewhere down the line.
