Sometimes in WWE, storylines and drama are a big part of the entertainment. However, former WWE Superstar Brian Kendrick was not willing to be a part of one particular storyline with Ashley Massaro.
Brian Kendrick’s former teammate, Paul London, recently revealed that WWE wanted to create a love-triangle storyline between Kendrick, himself, and their valet Ashley Massaro.
Ashley Massaro won the 2005 Diva Search competition and joined the WWE soon after. A year later, she became the valet for London and Kendrick on SmackDown, with London and Massaro also dating in real life. However, WWE had other ideas for the storyline.
During a recent episode of Cafe de Rene, London revealed that WWE had wanted to create a love-triangle storyline between the three of them. Kendrick, however, was against the idea as he did not want to make his wife uneasy.
“They were gonna try to start to do this angle where Brian was like also interested in her and we were both interested in her and, you know, almost trying to like romanticize it. And I think he was pretty adamant about his displeasure with that because he didn’t want his wife to feel uneasy.”
Although the love-triangle storyline never came to fruition, there was one moment during a match in England where the angle was hinted at. London was supposed to crush Ashley Massaro during a crossbody move, but instead, he rolled on top of her. Brian Kendrick then came out to carry her off, which was the closest the angle ever got to becoming a storyline.
But the closest hint of that (…) was when I worked Regal in England and I went for like a crossbody and he ducks and I rolled all the way to the apron and I rolled on top of her. I was supposed to like crush her. And then he came out to like carry her off or something. That was the closest to that angle that they got.”
While drama and storylines are a big part of wrestling, it’s clear that Kendrick was unwilling to cross a line that might have caused personal issues for himself and his wife.
