WWE’s biggest show of the year is coming up, and WrestleMania is on the horizon with the company set to present the global extravaganza. WWE superstars and personnel are fully involved in preparing for two nights of jam-packed action and experience. However, one captivating former WWE personnel who is confirmed to miss the show is Pat McAfee.
Pat McAfee was an instant hit with WWE fan for his amazing work as a commentator on Friday Night SmackDown. McAfee gave a new direction to the role and revolutionized it like no one else.
Apart from that, the former NFL player was exceptionally well inside the squared circle. Moreover, Pat McAfee even competed at last year’s WrestleMania in a match against Austin Theory and the Chairman of WWE himself, Vince McMahon.
However, Pat McAfee left the promotion to join ESPN’s Game Day as an analyst last year. Furthermore, WWE President and CEO Nick Khan confirmed during an interview with Andrew Marchand and John Ourand on the Marchand & Ourand Sports Media Podcast, that McAfee won’t be a part of the WrestleMania festivities this year.
“We have no plans to have him there this weekend. The world is his oyster. He’s 36 years old. Look at his relevancy factor when you talk to young children. I have two young children, when I talk to them, it’s often, ‘McAfee, McAfee, McAfee.’ That’s what’s in the wheelhouse for them.” Khan added, “He’s looking to have good content and his content has been terrific. He’ll determine, ultimately, where he wants his home to be. Our hope is that he does more with us.”
While Pat McAfee continues to work for ESPN, he did make a one-off return to WWE. The NFL punter came back to the commentary desk at January’s Royal Rumble event joining Michael Cole and Corey Graves to call the action for the night. We will have to wait and see if McAfee chooses to return to WWE in the future.
Do you think Pat McAfee would return to WWE in the future? Which event can he come back on? Sound off in the comments!
