On March 23 Impact Wrestling announced that Impact Knockouts Champion Mickie James would not be able to compete at the highly anticipated Impact Sacrifice event. James was scheduled to defend her title against Jordynne Grace but had to be pulled after suffering broken rib.

It wasn’t just the Sacrifice event that James had to withdraw from. She was also slated to defend her title at IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United against Miyu Yamashita, Gisele Shaw, and Deonna Purrazzo. This was undoubtedly a frustrating and disappointing development for James, who was undoubtedly looking forward to these events.

While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Mickie James was asked how she was feeling about the situation. James remained positive and expressed gratitude that her injury was not more severe.

“I’m good. I’m grateful. It could have been a lot worse. A broken rib, that’s a couple of weeks. If I can just get healed up. It did suck. When you know when there is something wrong, it sucks and it’s painful, but I feel better now than I did when it first happened.”

She also revealed that there was initially some concern that it could have been a cartilage tear between the ribcage, which would have meant a longer recovery period of three months. Thus, James was relieved that it was just a broken rib, which has a shorter recovery time of six to eight weeks.

”When they first looked at it, they were thinking it was a cartilage tear between the ribcage, and that would have been three months of healing time, plus the comeback. I’m almost grateful that it was just a broken rib. That means six to eight weeks. We’ll see what the doctor says.”

Jordynne Grace will receive a shot at the Impact Knockouts Title at Impact Rebellion. She will face the winner of the four-way match from Impact x NJPW Multiverse United. If James is cleared, she will be added to the match. If she is not cleared, she will have to relinquish the title. We’ll have to see whether James will be able to recover on time.
