CM Punk has been one of the most polarizing figures in the wrestling history. Punk was recently in the limelight for his comments on an Instagram story. The Former AEW World Champion asserted that Jon Moxley’s Rocky III idea was a bad one and that Moxley was stubborn on refusing to lose to him.
Punk also mentioned Chris Jericho and Dave Meltzer and called them as liars. He noted that he wouldn’t risk his health for any promotion. Punk has since then deleted the Instagram story but the screenshots are still making rounds over the internet.
CM Punk is still under the contract with AEW and AEW fans are longing for his return to the company. The Former WWE Superstar has been dealing with an injury he suffered during his match at All Out in September 2022. AEW Star Dax Harwood recently stated that AEW needs CM Punk and that everyone involved in the fight at backstage last year should move on and work together now.
In addition to Dax Harwood, AEW commentator Jim Ross too believes that AEW needs CM Punk. During a recent edition of Grilling JR Podcast, Ross stated that he is a big fan of CM Punk and that the Former AEW World Champion will be definitely back to AEW. The AEW commentator believes Punk’s star power and controversial image is a benefit for the company.
“I think it sold out. Rafael [Morffi] called me, and I said, ‘How are things going, tickets sales wise?’ He mentioned to me that the Toronto show had sold out. That’s good. Good for the home team. All good stuff, baby. But anyway, sell-outs, good. Anytime you get a sell out, you’re doing something right. I think we’re doing something right. I just got a feeling that big things are on the way.
Getting everybody healthy again and back on the roster again is important. Of course, the whole question is gonna center around [will] CM Punk ever be back. I’m one of those guys that believe he will be back. We’ll see. I think AEW needs CM Punk because of his star power, and he brings… with controversy creates cash, and he’s certainly controversial. I’m a big fan of Phil’s. We’ll see how it works out. I’m optimistic and positive,”
While Kenny Omega and the young bucks, who were involved in a physical altercation with Punk backstage, are back to wrestling at the promotion, fans expect Punk to return soon. CM Punk came out of retirement in 2021 and joined AEW, which was a plus point for the promotion. However, the course of events after his AEW debut also indicates that no AEW talent wants him in the promotion again.
