Jon Moxley made an announcement to fans that he was taking time off to focus on himself. He went to rehab to help him combat those demons, and then he made his triumphant return as a leaner, and much meaner Mox. That being said, AEW still wanted to get the most that they could out of him.
AEW has extended Kenny Omega’s contract due to the time he missed due to injury. This is not an isolated event, because they also did the same thing to Jon Moxley.
While speaking on The Sessions with Renee Paquette, Jon Moxley revealed that AEW extended his contract due to the time that he missed because of rehab. In the end, he is glad that they did that, because he didn’t want to feel like he owed the company anything.
If you’re curious, because I got out of rehab, and my contract was coming up. They extended it for the time that I missed, cool. I’m glad they did actually because I didn’t wanna feel like I owed them anything. They extended it a little bit, it was coming up, they were talking to me about it.
“And the last thing I wanted to do when I got out of rehab – because all they were telling me was basically, ‘Logic will tell you don’t go back to wrestling, because you’re just gonna fall into the same old habits’. So I wanted to just like, ease back into it, and see what life was like on the other side. And the last thing I wanted to do was just hurry up and sign a big long-term commitment. Because what if sh*t started to go off the rails?
Jon Moxley was not the only unhappy person after CM Punk dropped a scathing Instagram story. He soon deleted it, possibly due to AEW’s strict handbook guidelines, but the message was still heard loud and clear.
We will have to see what happens in the future, but it seems that Jon Moxley is happy in AEW right now. He re-upped his contract with Tony Khan’s company, and is still going strong, and hopefully living the healthiest life possible.
