Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler are undoubtedly one of the best tag teams in all of professional wrestling right now. They have always managed to add intensity to all of their matches and the results speak for themselves. That being said, it seems there is a good reason why FTR put their AEW careers on the line against The Gunns.
FTR challenged The Gunns for the AEW World Tag Team Titles this week on Dynamite. If FTR loses the match, then they will leave AEW. Naturally, this got many people talking about their AEW future.
During an interview with TMZ Sports, Harwood further explained the stipulation of the match and how it adds an element of intrigue that is essential to the fabric of wrestling.
Harwood emphasized that the concept of intrigue is the cornerstone of wrestling. It is what draws fans to the sport and keeps them on the edge of their seats. As he put it, wrestling is built around the element of newness and spontaneity, which keeps the fans emotionally invested in the matches. While the impressive feats of athleticism displayed in the ring are undeniably awe-inspiring, Harwood asserts that the heart of wrestling lies in the emotions that it evokes in the fans.
In light of this, Harwood went on to explain how the stipulation of the match against The Gunns plays into the emotions of the fans. The fact that the careers of Harwood and Wheeler are on the line adds an extra layer of tension and drama to the match. It plays into the natural human desire to see a story play out to its conclusion, to witness the triumph of the underdog, and to experience the catharsis that comes with a well-told tale.
Furthermore, Harwood pointed out that the stipulation of the match is particularly significant because it coincides with the expiration of his and Wheeler’s AEW contracts in mid-April. This adds a sense of urgency and high stakes to the match, as the outcome will not only determine the fate of the tag team titles but also potentially influence the future careers of Harwood and Wheeler.
So, intrigue is the whole reason that I mentioned this match (against The Gunns in which FTR’s AEW careers are on the line) because wrestling is built around intrigue and it’s built around new and spontaneity. That’s what wrestling is built around, emotion and how you feel. You see guys, all these big, sweaty guys in trunks and they’re rolling around or they’re doing flips and stuff like that and all that is impressive but what wrestling is really built around is emotion and how someone can feel and how we can make them feel for us and it’s no secret that my real life, me and Cash’s real life, our contracts coming up in mid-April.
The former Revival has been able to keep fans interested in their contract status for years now, no matter which company they’re working for. It remains to be seen what they will end up doing in April.
What’s your take on FTR? Would WWE just break them up if they came back? Sound off in the comments!
