Mercedes Mone was known as Sasha Banks in WWE, where she lit up the main roster for years. She walked out, along with Naomi, in May 2022, and she never looked back after that suspension was followed by her contract’s expiration. Even though she is a women’s champion in NJPW, the door is still open for her WWE return.
NJPW might have Mercedes Mone right now, but her time with the company is limited. The former WWE Superstar’s contract is said to be up very soon, and she is completing some required dates in Japan.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that the door is still open for Sasha Banks’ WWE return. Right now she is still Mercedes Mone, and doing just fine by her account, because there are a lot of possibilities for her.
It was noted that Mercedes Mone could work for AEW as well. Tony Khan has never dismissed the possibility of bringing her in. The possibility is still out there for her to work out a very fine deal with another company as WWE waits for her to give them a call.
The ball is in her court when it comes to New Japan, WWE and AEW as I’m sure she could go to any of the three and make a lot of money in both U.S. companies. She probably could work out an AEW deal where she would be able to work Japan and Mexico if she wanted as well. From the WWE side, we were told there were points that she has asked for that she would have to give up asking for to sign a deal with them but the door is open for her otherwise.
For other talent, the short-term deal works very much in her favor as she kept the buzz on her name, got to fulfill her goals of working in Japan in April and is basically on the open market.
It was also noted that, “Mone is going to Japan right after fulfilling her WrestleMania week appearances (for High Spots) and is staying there through the Yokohama Arena show.”
Mercedes Mone said she is waiting on a call about Forbidden Door. That could see her mix it up with some AEW talent as well. Only time will tell what she will do next in her career, but she hasn’t inked a long term deal with anyone yet.
Sasha Banks’ WWE return could be a big deal, but nothing is certain right now in that company either. They plan to be sold by the middle of 2023, as Vince McMahon’s return to the corporate boardroom could have also already leaked into the creative meetings.
