Sasha Banks made headlines last year when she walked out on Monday Night RAW along with Naomi. In the months that followed, fans accepted the fact that she was truly done with WWE. She has since made her way to NJPW as Mercedes Mone and is now a champion there. Now it seems Tony Khan has teased Mone appearing at the Forbidden Door 2 event.
Mercedes Moné is currently the IWGP Women’s Champion, having won the title at NJPW Battle in the Valley in February. This was Moné’s first officially sanctioned match since May 2022, and she succeeded in capturing the championship in impressive fashion.
AEW is holding another Forbidden Door event this Summer and fans are obviously very excited about it. In fact, even Mercedes Mone made it clear she is waiting for a call.
While speaking with Adrian Hernandez from the Bet Las Vegas, Tony Khan talked about what Mercedes Mone said regarding a potential apperance at Forbidden Door 2. Khan went on to tease her appearance at the event.
“It’s a very encouraging thing to hear. I have so much respect for Mercedes. I think she’s such a great pro wrestler and certainly one of the best in the world.
Any wrestling company in the world, including AEW, is fortunate to have Mercedes. Currently, she is the world champion for our partner NJPW and I think she’s a great champion for them.
I’m glad she brought up Forbidden Door as it’s going to be an exciting event. Certainly the shadow of Mercedes is looming large in NJPW right now.
When AEW and NJPW clash at Forbidden Door, it will be very interesting to see what happens. She’s certainly one of their top stars and it makes for a very interesting situation going into Forbidden Door.”
Mercedes Mone has a couple of dates left before she becomes a free agent. Therefore, we will have to wait and see whether she will appear at the second Forbidden Door event this year.
