Dustin Rhodes, the first son of the legendary “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, is known for his illustrious career which has lasted for more than four decades. Formerly known as Goldust in his run in WWE, he was known for his bizarre persona and in-ring skills. Many still consider him to be one of the underrated stars of his generation. Recently, the former Intercontinental Champion defended AEW and urged fans to be patient.
Dustin Rhodes has shown the remarkable ability to reinvent himself and adapt to changing trends in the pro wrestling industry. He has played a variety of different characters and has always been willing to take risks and try new things in the ring. He has been open about his struggles with addiction and has used his platform to raise awareness about mental health and substance abuse issues.
Dustin Rhodes joined AEW in the early months of its inception. The former tag team champion, who made his debut in 1988, has witnessed all of the promotion’s highs and lows and Rhodes recently discussed AEW’s current position on the “Sports Guys Talking Wrestling” podcast.
“I love AEW,” Rhodes . I love Tony [Khan], and he treats me like gold there, and it’s very appreciative. We have a good group of kids there, younger and some older. We’re coming together. We’re trying these new things. We’re trying to present a television show nationally each week and doing better and better and better … Listen, AEW is in a growing stage. This is our fourth year. It takes a while sometimes to get to the level that you want to get.”
Dustin Rhodes was placed in an emotionally charged feud with his brother Cody Rhodes when he first joined the company. The siblings would settle their differences in the ring at AEW’s first pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing, where “The American Nightmare” won. Rhodes believes AEW is doing a great job right now, but he voiced concern about the fans’ patience.
“Tony’s doing a fantastic job at booking these matches and these storylines and watching them unfold. But, you know, our audience, sometimes, they just want it now, right? And storylines sometimes they take time to develop. Sometimes the fans they forget, right? … I like slow, long storyline builds. And at the end of that thing, you’ve got to knock it out of the park, right?”
Dustin Rhodes is known for being vocal and doesn’t mince his word while making a statement. The 53-year-old superstar made his stance clear on the recent criticism that AEW received for lacking storytelling. We will have to wait and see what’s next for the former Bizarre One in the land of All Elite.
