The New Day is regarded as one of the greatest tag teams in the history of WWE, and it’s not really hard to see why. They have been part of numerous historical matches and won tag team titles several times. They also had a brief stint in NXT a few months ago and now it seems Xavier Woods has opened up about the same.
At NXT Deadline, the dynamic duo of Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston emerged victorious over Pretty Deadly, solidifying their place in WWE history as the third Triple Crown Tag Team Champions.
While speaking with ReviewSTL, Xavier Woods shared his excitement about his “unreal” NXT stint and the opportunity to work with the legendary Shawn Michaels and the incredibly talented roster.
Woods expressed his admiration for Pretty Deadly, whom he had been eager to work with for a long time. He commended their talent and ability to understand their wrestling personas, which is a challenging feat in the professional wrestling world. For Woods, working with them was an unforgettable experience.
“I think they’re very talented. I think they know who they are, which is one of the hardest things to figure out in professional wrestling and so getting to work with them was great.”
Spending time with the next generation of talent and immersing himself in their youthful energy was a rejuvenating experience for Woods. He was impressed with their eagerness to learn and their welcoming attitude. The New Day members made it a priority to connect with everyone and were met with kindness and enthusiasm.
“We talked to everybody as much as we could. Everyone was super nice and super receptive to everything.”
The environment of a TV studio wrestling was a new experience for Woods, who found it to be an “interesting beast.” Unlike traveling across the country for matches, being in the same place every week provided the talent with the opportunity to fine-tune their skills by discovering what works for them in front of an audience that knows and adores them. The chance to mix and match their styles with the NXT roster was exciting for Woods, as they experimented and created a new “gumbo” of moves.
“It’s cool to go there, to that setting, and see what we like to do and what works and what doesn’t, so getting to mix and match our stuff with some of their stuff to make a new gumbo was really cool.”
Vince McMahon also tried to split up The New Day multiple times. The faction is currently away from WWE television due to injuries suffered by both Kofi Kingston as well as Big E. We’ll have to see when they will be able to make their WWE television return.
