Sasha Banks caused a stir last year when she, along with Naomi, walked away from Monday Night RAW. In the ensuing months, fans came to terms with the fact that she had definitely left WWE. However, she made her way to NJPW under the moniker Mercedes Mone and has gone on to become a champion in the organization. Now it seems Mone wants to retire Mickie James.
Mercedes Moné is currently the IWGP Women’s Champion, having won the title at NJPW Battle in the Valley in February. This was Moné’s first officially sanctioned match since May 2022, and she succeeded in capturing the championship in impressive fashion.
Mone recently expressed her desire to face off against Impact Knockouts Champion Mickie James in a one-on-one match. During a Q&A session with AEW’s Leva Bates at Planet Comicon, Mone stated that she’s been waiting for the opportunity to face James and retire her from the wrestling world.
Mone, who has been a fan of James since her WWE debut, spoke about how James’s storyline with Trish Stratus inspired her to pursue a career in wrestling. The prospect of a one-on-one match with James is a dream come true for Mone, who has previously only had tag matches with James on live events.
I’m waiting for the bag, I’m waiting for Mickie James. Absolutely do I want to wrestle Mickie James. Mickie James is one of my legit idols.
“I definitely believe in 2023 that I can definitely make that dream come true. I definitely would love to face Mickie James and retire her a**; send her back to that rodeo and ride that horse. Bye Mickie.”
While there are currently no plans in place for a match between Mone and James, Mone believes that 2023 could be the year to make the dream a reality. She was quick to clarify that she’s open to the match and that any promoters listening should take note of her desire to retire James in the ring. We’ll have to see if they will face each other in the future, as Mone will become a free agent soon.
