As seen on this week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, Cody Rhodes, who is set to face off against the reigning Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the near future, was not content with simply watching from the sidelines.
During the opening segment of the show, Rhodes attempted to reconcile former rivals Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, who had been feuding for quite some time. Although it seemed like his efforts were in vain at first, Owens and Zayn eventually buried the hatchet and joined forces to take on their opponents together.
Rhodes, who was observing this emotional reunion from the locker room, wasn’t done making waves for the night. As the cameras rolled, the show kicked off with a dark match that saw Braun Strowman and Ricochet teaming up to face Hit Row.
But the excitement didn’t stop there. Rhodes was given an opportunity to challenge Austin Theory for the United States Championship in the second dark match of the night. The intense match saw both competitors give it their all, with Rhodes ultimately emerging as the victor by way of disqualification when The Bloodline interfered.
However, Owens and Zayn weren’t about to let Rhodes fight alone. The duo came to his aid, making a dramatic entrance to save him from The Bloodline’s wrath. The unexpected alliance of Owens, Zayn, and Rhodes made for an explosive ending to an already thrilling episode of SmackDown.
