In the past, the WWE was guilty of relegating the women’s division to the background, with most of the storylines centered around male superstars. Despite having both the Divas and Women’s Championships simultaneously, female wrestlers often found themselves playing second fiddle. However, things seem to be changing in recent times, with a renewed focus on women’s wrestling and female empowerment.
Maxmium Male Models’ Ma.çé has expressed a desire to bring back the butterfly title. Last year, Ma.çé and his partner Mansoor underwent a repackaging, transforming into extravagant male models with a passion for winning championships and showing off their chiseled physiques in the ring. The duo later added Maxxine Dupri to their ranks, and the trio began searching for a fourth member.
Their efforts led them to Otis, whom they have been trying to recruit since joining the red brand. However, Ma.çé’s latest ambition is to bring back the Divas Championship to the company, as he responded to a fan tweet on Twitter, signalling his intentions to do just that.
i will bring it back.
This development is intriguing, considering that the WWE retired the title in 2016 in favor of the Women’s Championship, a move that signaled a shift away from the objectification of female wrestlers.
It is highly likely that Ma.çé’s desire to revive the Divas Championship is part of his on-screen character development, but it remains to be seen if the WWE will entertain the idea. With the company’s current focus on women’s wrestling and female empowerment, it is doubtful that they would backtrack on their progress by reintroducing a title that once symbolized the objectification of female wrestlers.
