Austin Theory’s dedication has already earned him multiple accolades at a young age in WWE. He is a former Money in the Bank winner and the current United States Champion, a title he reclaimed at Survivor Series in November 2022. Now, Theory is set for arguably the biggest match of his career so far.

Austin Theory will put his United States Championship on the line against one of pro wrestling’s biggest icons, John Cena, at the upcoming WrestleMania 39 premium live event. Though the feud had been boiling on for months, the match was made official two weeks ago on RAW after Cena accepted Theory’s challenge for a match at the showcase of the immortals.

Theory recently appeared on WWE’s After the Bell podcast to promote his upcoming match against a man he grew and idolizing. The United States Champion recalled his verbal showdown with Cena on the March 6, 2023, episode of Monday Night RAW; noting he’s extremely focused on destroying his childhood hero on the grandest stage of them all.

“I stood in the ring with John Cena. I looked him right in his face. He said what he had to say, and it seems like he’s really, really upset. I looked that man in his eyes and I seen it. I seen the fear, you know? And this is John Cena, man. The guy never gives up. The man that’s not afraid of anything, and I could see it. He said I’m one pair of trunks away from being a jabroni. That’s what you showed up to my show to say to me? I’m just standing out there because I’m pretty speechless.”

The former Money in the Bank winner said he could care less about the Boston crowd that motivated Cena to accept the match at WrestleMania 39, adding that his family will be at the event to watch him destroy his childhood hero.

“I’m like, wow, this is the guy that I grew up watching that motivated me, that inspired me, that knows this. And he’s out here in front of his home crowd and he’s just trying to be cool? At WrestleMania, man those same people from Boston, they’re not going to be there. You know who’s going to be there, though? My family. And they’re going to watch me whoop his a**.”
