Trish Stratus is considered one of the most important female WWE Superstars in the history of the company. For many fans and peers, Stratus is a pioneer when it comes to the overall development of the women’s division in WWE. In fact, Stratus thinks she would not have retired if they WWE women’s division was like the current one.
Trish Stratus was seen as a sex symbol during the Attitude Era and this didn’t always go well for her. This included the infamous dog barking segment with Vince McMahon, which she did not mind as much either.
Trish Stratus had officially retired from in-ring competition back at Unforgiven 2006, when she defeated Lita to become the WWE Women’s Champion for the seventh time. Afterwards, she competed in a handful of matches but not regularly.
While speaking with Forbes to discuss a wide variety of subjects, Trish Stratus was asked if she would have stayed longer in WWE if the women’s division was treated back then how it’s treated today. Stratus made it clear that she wouldn’t have retired so early if that was the case.
“I think so. I felt very fulfilled at that stage of my career, but I had to also go, ‘let’s look at what I’ve done so far.’ I had the most amount of championships won at the time. I had worked all the women that were available and were working in our company. I had robust storylines with each of them, almost, I felt I had a robust storyline with just about every woman: Jazz, Molly, Victoria, Lita, Mickie you name it; We had our day.
I just felt good. I felt really good at that point. But now, you can just keep going on and on. I haven’t worked her, I haven’t worked her, there’s her, and then there’s the tag titles. There’s this championship and there’s that championship. The world is your oyster if you’re a woman in wrestling today.”
Trish Stratus will team up with Becky Lynch and Lita and square off against Damage CTRL at WrestleMania 39. We’ll have to wait and see how they will fare in the match.
