The Undertaker dedicated himself to entertaining fans for over thirty years, often at the expense of his own physical health. His unwavering commitment to his craft has solidified his status as a living legend, with numerous accomplishments and contributions that have set him apart in the business. That being said, it seems The Undertaker admitted that it would be very difficult for his character to work in WWE’s modern era.

The Deadman was a constant highlight of WWE television since the early 90s. He finally retired at Survivor Series 2020 and even got inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame last year.

While speaking with Ariel Helwani, The Undertaker expressed his belief that it would be challenging to introduce his iconic character into the modern wrestling landscape due to the prevalence of camera phones.

The Deadman acknowledged that he was able to fully embody the character because he didn’t have to worry about being recognized outside the wrestling arena. He suggested that the current climate of social media and constant filming would make it difficult for a character like The Undertaker to thrive.

“It would be very difficult just because everyone [has] a phone that has a camera. I was able to live this character because I didn’t have to worry about that. I didn’t have to worry about sitting in the airport in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt and somebody being like, ‘Oh, look, The Undertaker.’ I didn’t have to worry about that. Everybody sees somebody and immediately they want to film them and see what’s going to happen.”

Despite this, the WWE Hall of Famer stated that he would have liked to take on the challenge of adapting his character to the current era. He praised the evolution of athleticism in wrestling but noted that social media can hinder wrestlers from developing their characters. Regardless, there will never be a character like The Undertaker ever again and that’s something fans have accepted.
