Ric Flair is a two-time WWE Hall of Famer already, and he had a big announcement in store today. The Nature Boy was on hand to announce another name that is set to be inducted in this year’s big ceremony.
The Great Muta is regarded as one of the all-time greats in the world of professional wrestling. The Japanese legend was on a retirement tour since late last year and finally completed it earlier this year. Now it seems he will be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame this year.
According to ESPN, it was announced that The Great Muta is the next inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023. This was expected thanks to previous reports and it will be confirmed by Ric Flair on WWE The Bump. The Nature Boy was around for that big announcement.
Despite never having wrestled for WWE, Muta participated in the NJPW & WWF Champions Series in Japan in 1985 and frequently competed in the NWA and WCW. As a former WCW Tag Team Champion, Muta had an iconic feud with Sting for the NWA World Television Championship.
Muta was also a frequent opponent of Ric Flair and challenged for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship multiple times during his career. No matter what, he was always respected in the business.
On January 1, Muta’s final singles match was against Shinsuke Nakamura, who is currently signed to WWE. Later, on January 22, Muta’s last match as Great Muta took place when he teamed up with Sting and Darby Allin to face AKIRA, Hakushi, and Naomichi Marufuji.
The Great Muta will be joining Rey Mysterio in this year’s Hall Of Fame ceremony. We will have to wait and see which other legends will be joining the two professional wrestling icons.
