Drew McIntyre is currently one of the top Superstars in WWE and has garnered a huge fan following thanks to his passion for the business. McIntyre is beloved by many and is never afraid of having a good time in WWE. That being said, it seems WWE almost had to change plans for him on Smackdown.
During the March 10th, 2023 episode of WWE Smackdown, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus both secured pins simultaneously in the fatal five-way match to determine the challenger for Gunther’s Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 39.
While one referee counted McIntyre’s pin on LA Knight from the Claymore, another referee counted Sheamus’ pin on Xavier Woods from a brogue kick. However, McIntyre might have missed out on the match entirely.
According to PW Insider, Drew McIntyre almost had to miss out on Smackdown last week, which would have changed up plans for the show. It was noted that McIntyre was “extremely ill” last week and wasn’t actually cleared to wrestle until after he arrived at the arena and was examined by WWE’s medical team.
It was further noted that, “McIntyre, who worked all the live events post-Smackdown, has received a lot of respect for how hard he has worked for the company, even when under the weather or working banged up over the last year. He’s very much a locker room leader in that regard.”
Drew McIntyre and Sheamus are scheduled to have a singles match on this coming Friday’s Smackdown, where the winner will go on to challenge GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39. We’ll have to see who will end up winning the match.
