WWE has a lot of Superstars on their roster who might deserve a break, but an injury hiatus is never welcomed. Thankfully, one NXT Superstar’s time on the shelf didn’t last very long.

WWE NXT Superstar JD McDonagh suffered a detached retina while facing Ilya Dragunov in a brutal match. He came back to television the next week and announced his injury, but he was still able to show up for work. It wasn’t expected that he would be out for very long, and that wait is already over.

JD McDonagh’s return to in-ring action went down on Friday night at the NXT live event in Dada City, Florida. This took place during the developmental brand’s “Coconut Loop.”

During JD McDonagh’s in-ring return, he was able to beat Dante Chen without any complication. It was later noted by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that his return was a “pretty quick” one.

“He was back wrestling too. That was pretty quick for a detached retina.”

Bryan Alvarez then said that, “When he suffered the detached retina they said it would only be a couple of weeks. So, actually, he took longer than they originally indicated. It does seem awfully quick for a detached retina.”

Thankfully, JD McDonagh is back in the ring, and he will hopefully be able to carry on for a long time to come without having to take anymore breaks, especially due to injury.

What’s your take on this situation with JD McDonagh? Is he a future WWE NXT Champion? Sound off in the comments!
