Vince McMahon remains one of the biggest names in the pro wrestling world. He managed to draw the ire of many thanks to his hush-money scandal last year. Despite the controversy, McMahon returned to his role as Executive Chairman of WWE earlier this year and was seen backstage on a recent episode of RAW. However, it has since been suggested that McMahon’s appearance backstage may have been more complicated than initially assumed.
The return of Vince McMahon to WWE RAW last week made a lot of fans interested, particularly given the special nature of the night. On the night of John Cena’s return, it was not really a big surprise to see Vince McMahon backstage.
As previously reported, Vince McMahon’s recent appearance at WWE RAW was primarily to visit John Cena backstage. In addition to that, it was noted that he was not involved in any creative decisions at all.
However, Vince McMahon was present in the Gorilla Position throughout the night, which led to speculation among some fans that he might just take control of the company again. However, things aren’t as simple as they seem now.
While speaking during Sunday Night’s Main Event, Dave Meltzer discussed Vince McMahon’s appearance backstage on Monday Night RAW last week. Meltzer suggested that while McMahon may offer his opinion, it is Triple H who is currently in charge of creative direction for WWE.
Dave Meltzer explained that McMahon’s presence on the night could be viewed as simply providing guidance or offering his input. Ultimately, the long-term impact of McMahon’s involvement remains to be seen.
“That’s what they want you to believe…Triple H was in charge. But I mean, he has influence on stuff now and Triple H has even said so. You know, they talk about it. Triple H is the one in charge but Vince offers his opinion. And that’s natural. I talked to somebody there, you know about that, like that night, and it was just like, that’s what they want you to believe.
But, you know, Levesque is the one in charge. He was the one giving all the orders and everything like that, but Vince was there and whatever that means long run, you know, we’ll see.”
Dave Meltzer was then asked if it was possible that John Cena was the only reason Vince McMahon was present backstage on Monday Night RAW. Meltzer noted that he was told it was more than just to meet John Cena.
“I’m just kind of told it’s more than that. When I said that’s what they want you to believe, that means that there’s more to it than that.”
Vince McMahon’s unexpected visit backstage during Monday Night RAW did not really faze WWE talent. Interestingly, McMahon was not scheduled to make an appearance on the show. As for his participation in WrestleMania 39, it remains uncertain, and no official confirmation of his involvement has been made yet.
