Two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair is one of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling. Almost every pro wrestling fan knows who ‘The Nature Boy,’ but that does not mean Flair will take a picture all the time. In fact, it seems Flair was once fined a lot of money for not taking a photo.
At the Unforgiven Pay-Per-View in 2005, Ric Flair won the Intercontinental Championship title from Carlito, securing his first and only reign with the coveted gold. The victory was especially significant as it marked Flair’s first singles title win in WWE in 13 years, after having held the WWE Championship twice in 1992.
Given Ric Flair’s long tenure on WWE’s roster, it’s not surprising that he may have found himself in hot water backstage at times. As a notorious figure in the wrestling industry known for his “Dirtiest Player in the Game” moniker, Flair was known for his tendency to bend the rules and push boundaries, which sometimes resulted in backstage conflicts or controversies
While speaking on the latest episode of his To Be the Man podcast, Ric Flair talked about the time he was fined by the company. During Unforgiven 2005, Flair recalled his Intercontinental Championship win and being fined almost immediately after his victory for not taking a photo with the title.
According to Ric Flair, the lack of a studio picture of him with the Intercontinental belt annoys them. He refused to take the picture and was fined $5,000. Flair criticized the company for having a talent developmental problem if they needed to fine a 55-year-old for not taking the photo.
They still don’t have a [studio] picture of me with the Intercontinental belt. It drives them crazy, right? I said ‘I’m not taking a picture with the Intercontinental belt’ and so they fined me five thousand dollars. And I told them. ‘When you guys are so starved for talent, that you’ve got to fine a 55-year-old guy for not taking a picture with the Intercontinental belt, you’ve got a developmental problem with talent.
I said ‘I’m not taking a picture with the Intercontinental belt’ and so they fined me five thousand dollars.”
Ric Flair has experienced a lot of things throughout his career and this was simply one instance, out of many. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for the former WWE Superstar.
