Cody Rhodes is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in WWE right now. His stock only increased after WrestleMania 38. He had a solid promo segment on Smackdown last week and it seems Rhodes didn’t necessarily want to talk about one particular aspect in his promo with Roman Reigns.

At the start of this week’s SmackDown, The American Nightmare came face-to-face with The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, leading to a heated exchange that took a personal turn.

Despite the tension, the WrestleMania opponents managed to avoid a physical altercation in anticipation of their upcoming match, and the segment concluded with a handshake between the two stars.

Cody Rhodes has been involved in major storylines with WWE’s top superstars Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns since his return at WrestleMania 38. Throughout these storylines, Cody’s father, the legendary Dusty Rhodes, has been prominently referenced in promos.

As a pivotal figure in the industry, Dusty played a significant role in shaping both Seth and Roman during their time in NXT, and even in minor feuds or standalone matches, his name has been invoked to provoke Cody’s opponents.

While speaking to Kevin Kellam of WrestleBinge, Cody was asked about using Dusty Rhodes’ name in his promos. Cody Rhodes revealed that he did not want to talk about his father Dusty in his promo with Roman Reigns.

“Can’t avoid it. Those nights when I make it clear that I’m not going to talk about Dusty at all is the night that the other guy talks about Dusty. Just recently, with Roman, I wasn’t really interested in the idea of ‘we’re going to converse on my father,’ but he has a very unique relationship, and had a very unique relationship with my father, so he’s the one that took it up there.

I’m always hip and keen to the amount of emotion that happens with me on television. Everything everyone has been watching since I came back at the Royal Rumble is real. In an industry where there is a suspension of disbelief and areas of gray, this is the most real anything has ever been, trying to win a title that my family never got. The last opportunity we got for it was in the late 70s. It’s as real as it gets. Coming back from a very real injury, trying to make it to the Royal Rumble, surviving Gunther until I was able to eliminate him, very real. I like that. I prefer that. I have the responsibility, but also to a degree, the burden of the character that I play is myself. That’s what makes ‘finish the story’ sound even better. It’s a real story

Cody Rhodes will be stepping into the biggest match of his career when he takes on Roman Reigns in a colossal main event. This much-anticipated showdown will see Rhodes challenging Reigns for his coveted Undisputed WWE Universal Title, in what is sure to be an epic battle.
