MJF turned his current AEW contract situation into a television storyline. His deal is up in 2024, and he’s even dropped references to Bruce Prichard and Triple H on AEW television to prove his point. It turns out that he is doing a lot of talking.
MJF is set to defend the AEW World Title against Bryan Danielson at AEW Revolution. The two will throw down in an Iron Man match.
Sean Sapp reported a very interesting update about MJF behind Fightful’s paywall. It was noted that there is “zero confirmation” about the actual status of MJF’s contract, but he is certainly giving the impression that his deal is up in 2024.
MJF has told anyone that asked the same thing that he says on AEW TV — that his deal is up at the start of the year.
This extends to WWE, as well. Including one WWE talent outright admitting that MJF said “I’m looking forward to being there in 2024,” before noting that while MJF wanted them to think he was serious, they take it with a grain of salt. Word of him saying that had made its way to other talent there, as well.
It was also noted that “one WWE source we spoke to said that ‘obviously’ WWE has been and would be interested in MJF if and when he was available, but that many in the company aren’t even sure when his AEW contract is actually up, and are operating on assumptions, and what he’s told to people.” There is no confirmation that MJF has extended his contract either, but this is an assumption that many hold.
It is unclear exactly what is going on with MJF’s AEW contract. If it is really up at the end of 2023, then AEW might need to book accordingly. Pro wrestling contracts can get a bit complicated, and MJF’s situation always adds an extra layer of intrigue.
It’s also very important to note that MJF has turned his current AEW contract situation into a television storyline, hinting that his deal is up in 2024. While there is “zero confirmation” about the actual status of his contract, MJF’s statements have caught the attention of not only AEW, but also WWE. It remains unclear whether MJF has extended his contract, and his situation adds an extra layer of intrigue to the already complicated world of pro wrestling contracts. With his upcoming match against Bryan Danielson at AEW Revolution on March 5th.
