WWE has witnessed many of its talented superstars leave the company to pursue their wrestling aspirations elsewhere. These superstars are given characters to be presented in front of fans across the world, with WWE doing everything to keep their identity protected in terms of trademarks. Recently, former WWE superstar Claudio Castonogli‘s trademark was challenged.
After joining AEW and Ring of Honor in June after departing WWE a few months earlier, it’s been forgotten, but Claudio Castagnoli briefly considered going under a different name during his post-WWE career. The former Swiss Superman submitted a trademark application for “CSRO” in March of last year. However, Castagnoli is currently up against opposition for the trademark application despite not utilizing the name.
WWE will be contesting Claudio Castagnoli’s “CSRO” trademark, according to PWInsider. On Tuesday, the promotion filed a motion to do so, requesting an additional 90 days to submit its opposition. The decision was probably made due to the name’s resemblance to Castagnoli’s 11-year WWE alias, “Cesaro,” which he used, however, WWE taking so long to object to the trademark is unknown at the moment.
It’s become common for WWE to contest or reclaim trademarks. Matt Cardona claimed that WWE contacted him about the subject, which caused Cardona to give up his pursuit of trademarking “Zack Ryder,” his ring name in the WWE after the promotion allowed its trademark of the name to lapse. Since then, WWE has submitted paperwork to re-trademark “Zack Ryder” and “Ezekiel Jackson,” the namesake of former WWE star Rycklon Stephens.
On the other side, Claudio Castagnoli will defend the ROH World Title against AR Fox, tonight on ROH TV. Tomorrow night, Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta will compete on “AEW Rampage” in a four-way tag team matchup against Australian Open, Alex Reynolds and John Silver, and Top Flight.
We will have to see what’s next for this story, and everything else going on in the pro wrestling world. Until then, keep it tuned right here with Ringside News.
