Tay Melo found far more success in AEW after her stint with WWE NXT ended. She gained even more attention due to her relationship with Sammy Guevara, but all of that notoriety also came with a ton of pain outside the ring.
Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale took on Anna Jay and Tay Melo in a brutal street fight in recent memory. That match was a bloodbath, and it also included a lot of pain. Even going into the big match, Tay Melo was unable to walk.
While speaking to Elite POV, Tay Melo said that she’s been dealing with a back protrusion for a number of years. Things flared up for Melo just before her street fight, forcing her to use a wheelchair in the airport the day before she was set to lose a ton of blood in an AEW ring.
“I have a protrusion on my back, so it’s something that I’ve been dealing with for more than 10 years by now. I know how to go about it. Before the match, I started feeling it a little bit, and the doctors in AEW, they’re super good. I told them, they helped me see if it was okay to do it. They asked me, and I was like, ‘I’m gonna do it. Let’s go.’ I’ll never say no, let me tell you, unless I’m really dying. I was like, I’m in pain, I knew I was in pain. The day before, let me tell you, I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t walk. At the airport, the walk was so long, we had to get a wheelchair for me because I was not able to walk for too long. It was really bad.”
We will have to see what the future holds for Tay Melo. She might need to take it easy for a while, because that back issue doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Back injuries can take down even the toughest person, and Tay Melo knows all about that pain.
