The past year saw numerous updates regarding The Rock and Steve Austin’s possible presence at the Grandest stage of them all. However, the pro wrestling fans were disappointed when they came to know that The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin wouldn’t be present at this year’s WrestleMania.
The Rock was reportedly set to get himself involved in the Bloodline storyline, with him facing Roman Reigns at the event. The current match involving Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania is said to be WWE’s plan B since The Rock could make it to the event.
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin, on the other hand, sparked rumors for a possible match after he began posting his workout videos on his social handle last year. The Texas Rattlesnake, who fought Kevin Owens last year at the Grandest Stage of them all, was again expected to fight at this year’s event, with his opponents being rumored from Brock Lesnar, Austin Theory and Seth Rollins.
During a recent appearance on the Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair expressed his desire of seeing the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin at the Grandest Stage of them all. However, Ric Flair also stated that he even if they don’t happen to be at the event, WWE shouldn’t rely on the two WWE Legends as the show is still sold out with Rhodes vs. Reigns in the main event.
“I hope [Stone Cold] Steve [Austin] and [The] Rock come by. If they don’t, you know, there comes a time in the business, as we all know, when you can’t just keep relying on Steve and Rock. Now John [Cena] is still going, but Steve’s got a whole other life. Steve’s got an empire. And The Rock’s got an empire. And they don’t need the money, they do it for the love of the business, you know what I mean? But for how long have we been hearing – six months we heard that Rock was going to wrestle Roman, and they say he’s not? And guess what, they’re still sold out with Cody [Rhodes].”
While Steve Austin hasn’t said no to competing in a match, fans are hoping to see him at the event. Austin and The Rock last shared stage at the WrestleMania 30, where they delivered a promo with Hulk Hogan, where the three reminisced about the past WrestleMania events and led the crowd to chant their catchphrases. Fans can surely expect such a moment again at this year’s event.
