Bayley was out of action for a year and a half after a torn ACL in July 2021. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion made her return to WWE at SummerSlam 2022, introducing Dakota Kai and IYO SKY. The group eventually evolved into the faction Damage CTRL. Their arrival is one of the major moments that occurred after Triple H took over creative. In fact, if it weren’t for Triple H, Damage CTRL never would have happened
While speaking to Ariel Helwani in an interview for BT Sport, Bayley recalled the debut of the group which later took on the name of Damage CTRL. She stated how she would not be a part of the faction if Triple H hadn’t taken over creative.
Bayley acknowledged that she was unaware of what the company had in store for her as the company was waiting until they were fully cleared. Upon being questioned whether Damage CTRL would even exist without the shift in creative, Bayley had this to say.
“No, no, I would be… To be honest, I don’t know. I didn’t know any ideas that they had for me. I didn’t even if I asked like creative, they weren’t really sure, because they were waiting to [get] us 100% cleared.”
Bayley emphasized how her being placed in Damage CTRL was a very much welcome decision. It put her in a place where she could not only help her stable mates IYO Sky and Dakota, but the whole women’s division to progress.
“I had no idea what I was doing. To me, it’s like, I feel like I would have just fallen back into the same place that I was. Not that that’s a bad thing, because I didn’t get to do anything with the fans, you know. So it’d still all be new to me. I would have turned it up a million. But this, to me is what I wanted and what I needed in, even in my career, not just to help IYO and Dakota and the division. But like, to me, it just adds another layer and another evolution, another piece of evolution to my character, to show a different side of me. There is just more to it than just being me and being worried about me and me and me, and me and me. Now, I got these girls to worry about and I love it is what I wanted,”
This week on WWE RAW, Damage CTRL lost their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship to Lita and Becky Lynch. Now we will have to see what the rest of the road to WrestleMania looks like for them.
