WrestleMania is always an event that commands attention. This year’s match for Brock Lesnar at the show of shows certainly surprised a lot of fans, because Omos was not their first choice. It turns out that Omos wasn’t WWE’s first choice either.

Ringside News was able to confirm that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was the original WrestleMania 39 opponent for Brock Lesnar. The Texas Rattlesnake isn’t doing that match, which he told the company. That forced them to figure out something else.

A tenured source in the WWE creative team also told us that, “Omos was not the original back-up to the Austin match.” In fact, “there have been several back-ups pitched all around, and this is the one that got put on the card.”

It was not noted who WWE pitched for Brock Lesnar after Steve Austin declined of the match. There are several possible opponents for Brock Lesnar that WWE fans have thrown around over the past several weeks, and a number of those names were likely pitched by creative.

It was previously reported that Omos vs Brock Lesnar was not a Vince McMahon call. On the other hand, Brock Lesnar also must approve all of his opponents beforehand, so anyone WWE picked would need to get the okay from the Beast Incarnate before they can move forward.

WrestleMania 39 is going to be a huge event, with two nights jam-packed with pro wrestling. Only time will tell how Brock Lesnar vs Omos turns out, but this was the match that they decided to go with after weighing several options.
