WWE Superstars can make a lot of money off the right catchphrase. Inspiration comes from anywhere, and it turns out that Imperium has one of their own members’ fathers to thank for one of their best lines.
Imperium consists of GUNTHER, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci. The stable is getting a lot of attention and could be positioned as a dominate force on the WWE roster. Through it all, they have not lost respect for the ring and everything that entails.
While speaking to The Bump, GUNTHER confirmed that the team’s motto that “the mat is sacred” actually came from Ludwig Kaiser’s own father.
“I have to say, to his (Kaiser’s) dad, he inspired all of us because that’s where our identity comes from,” GUNTHER began. “Obviously Gio, we connected later, so it was a little bit different perhaps. But there was a heavy influence on all of us.”
Ludwig Kaiser agreed with GUNTHER’s opinion in a huge way. He chimed in to explain how the ring is, indeed, sacred for them.
“100 percent, down to the ‘The mat is sacred’ and all that kind of stuff. My dad, I remember a very young age, whenever there were some kind of festivity or whatever, he would always raise his glass and say, ‘The mat is sacred.’ A lot of the things that we say, and to a certain extent portray on TV is what we actually think … what I was taught when I was a little boy.”
We’ll have to see what the road to WrestleMania 39 has in store for Imperium. Many fans wanted to see GUNTHER vs Brock Lesnar, but that isn’t happening. GUNTHER later said that the face-to-face he had with Lesnar at the Royal Rumble was all they needed for now.
