Sami Zayn has been part of the WWE family for almost a decade now and has consistently improved himself at every turn. Zayn has also managed to turn every single gimmick into pure gold, including his latest one regarding The Bloodline. In fact, his breakout stardom has been compared to DDP in WCW.
For many fans, Sami Zayn’s current character has become must-see television and is the reason why fans even tune into Friday Night Smackdown every week. Even the likes of Jim Cornette love Zayn’s current character.
In the last year, Sami Zayn’s career trajectory has taken a significant turn. After suffering a defeat at the hands of Johnny Knoxville and the “Jackass” crew at WrestleMania 38, he was surprisingly in contention for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the recent Elimination Chamber event, just days later. Zayn has mainly operated in the mid-card of WWE’s roster since his promotion to the main roster in 2015. However, his sudden ascent to the main event has caused many to take notice of his rise in the wrestling world.
While speaking on WrestleBinge, Eric Bischoff addressed comparisons between Zayn and former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Diamond Dallas Page. He then explained how they share similar trajectories.
There are some parallels there. [DDP] was kind of in the middle of the roster, right, and he was pretty good,” Bischoff stated, “but once [DDP] made that transition, once he turned down the NWO and started working with Randy Savage and so many other top names, he just blew out of the pack. He didn’t slowly grow his way to the top of the roster; he just blew the doors off.”
