AEW President Tony Khan is known for a lot of things as of late, which includes going off on people on Twitter. MMA Sports journalist Ariel Helwani was the most recent subject of Khan’s scorn, calling the journalist a fraud. Now it seems even Michael Cole took a shot at Tony Khan.
On the February 17th episode of Friday Night Smackdown, Ariel Helwani, a Montreal, Canada native, made an appearance in his hometown, which coincidentally is also the hometown of Sami Zayn. He was there in the crowd, and his segment wasn’t very long, but it was impactful.
Tony Khan was quite irate after Helwani’s appearance, which led to Khan calling Helwani “a fraud” and then grouping him in the same category as Tony Schiavone as a legitimate reporter. This led to a scathing reply from Helwani himself in a big way, one where he called Khan a “snowman,” a reference to TK’s alleged love of white powder.
During the Elimination Chamber premium live event, while showing Helwani and former UFC Welterweight and Middleweight Champion Georges St-Pierre, Michael Cole took a shot at Tony Khan.
On your right, there’s Georges St-Pierre, one of the greatest MMA stars of all-time. On the left, the unbiased, world renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani who asks all the hard questions whether you want to answer them or not.
Ariel Helwani had gotten big points with WWE for calling Tony Khan a snowman as well. We’ll have to wait and see if Tony Khan will respond to what Michael Cole said in the future.
