Kenny Omega’s in-ring skills have brought him worldwide fame and acclaim as he is touted as the best bout machine for good reason. He had a solid run as the AEW World Champion for almost a year. He also ruled the roost in NJPW, being the IWGP Heavyweight Champion by beating Kazuchika Okada. Before he became such a huge name, Omega was a rookie who once worked in WWE’s developmental system. However, it seems his time in WWE made Omega consider leaving the business.
Kenny Omega once wrestled for Deep South Wrestling, a former WWE developmental territory. In October 2005, Omega was sent to Deep South Wrestling and was given a tryout.
Kenny Omega was then given a full-time contract, but did not end up staying all that long. In fact, Omega requested his release in August 2006.
While speaking to Monthly Puroresu, Omega about his time in Deep South Wrestling, and what about it made him question his love for pro wrestling and even considering quitting the business as a whole.
[I]t wasn’t for me, At that point I had thought maybe wrestling isn’t for me because I was thinking at the highest level, when it becomes more of a business rather than a passion. Maybe I’m not the businessman that I thought that I was, maybe I was never meant to be at the highest level. Things are meant to be micromanaged. Maybe it isn’t what made me fall in love with wrestling to begin with.
Thankfully, Kenny Omega didn’t quit the business and is now regarded as one of the greatest to ever do it. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next in store for Omega. If anything, he has a lot of time to make up for in AEW after taking such a long injury hiatus.
