Tony Khan, the President of AEW, has a deep passion for professional wrestling. This is undeniable, and he proves it with his big purchases in the pro wrestling space. However, not everyone agrees with the way he has been booking matches and storylines in AEW and ROH. That being said, it seems Khan is open to buying another company in the future.
After Vince McMahon’s return to WWE, the company hired external advisors to assess strategic options for their upcoming media rights negotiations, including the potential sale of the company. A decision to sell would occur prior to WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown media rights deals being finalized. According to Nick Khan, the sale process could be swift, with a potential sale taking place in as little as three months.
In fact, Tony Khan and his father Shahid Khan remain in the pool of buyers for WWE even now. In addition to that, Tony Kha has even expressed his own interest in purchasing the company.
While speaking on Bex & Buster, Khan was asked if he were to own another wrestling company, would he keep the rosters separate or not. Khan then revealed that e is open to purchasing another company, should the opportunity arise.
“If I owned another wrestling company besides the two I already own, it would be very challenging, but I think we would want to maintain separate rosters just like I’ve tried to keep AEW and Ring of Honor to where there is crossover between the companies, but both have a strong pay-per-view business and AEW has great television. Soon, I’ll have more to talk about regarding when and where Ring of Honor’s weekly TV will be on HonorClub and, going forward, when and where we’re going to tape those shows.
There is some example of what we would do as far as keeping the pay-per-view business separate, but having some crossover. It would certainly be different if it were a different company. With AEW and Ring of Honor, I’m very happy with what we’re doing. Certainly, if there were other opportunities that arose in terms of acquisitions then I would certainly be interested in (them).”
The Khan family is involved in owning and running AEW, ROH, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Fulham FC. It remains to be seen whether Tony Khan will end up purchasing WWE. After all, that would be the biggest win for Tony Khan and fans certainly want to see that happen.
