One of the biggest talking points of last year was the All Out post media scrum and the infamous brawl that ensued following the press conference. The brawl saw CM Punk and The Elite stripped of their respective titles and suspended. The incident left a black mark on AEW with many criticizing the way it was handled.
Cody Rhodes, who had already left AEW for WWE by the time the incident took place, shared his thoughts on the infamous brawl during a recent interview with Ariel Helwani.
“There were some people texting me, ‘Man, you’re the smartest guy in the room. And I wanted to write back, ‘F.U. man.’ I don’t feel that way. I feel this thing we built got damaged.”
While Rhodes refused to point fingers at anyone, he took the incident to heart. In reality, he hated seeing how it all went down.
“I just hated seeing that.”
Cody further stressed that he hopes AEW continues to grow and provide opportunities for more wrestlers. He then discussed that building an alternative wrestling promotion and giving more opportunities to wrestlers is just as important to him as winning the World Title or Royal Rumble.
“I don’t want that to be erased. I don’t want that to go away,” he declared. “I was just bummed out when I saw it. That’s not how we envisioned it.”
Cody Rhodes made a triumphant return at the 2023 Royal Rumble and punched his ticket to WrestleMania where he will face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. Stay tuned to Ringside News as we bring you similar stories.
