Sami Zayn has been working in WWE for almost ten years now and has consistently stepped up game whenever required. Zayn has also managed to turn every single gimmick into pure gold, including his latest one involving The Bloodline. That being said, it seems Paul Heyman passed on drafting Sami Zayn back in 2019.
The WWE Draft is held every year after WrestleMania and usually features some big changes via drafting talent from one brand to another. This was the case back in 2019 as well.
In 2019, Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff were both working for WWE. Heyman was in charge of the RAW talent, while Eric Bischoff oversaw the SmackDown roster.
While speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff revealed that Paul Heyman passed on Sami Zayn, sending him to SmackDown instead.
“SmackDown was about to debut on FOX Network, which is a very, very big deal. I didn’t know Sami [Zayn], so as we sit down, and we’re shuffling the deck and looking at the names on the roster and all of that. Sami was in the category where Paul would say, ‘No, you take him.'”
Four years later, Sami Zayn has now become one of the top stars in the company. Sami Zayn will be challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Universal Championship at WWE Elimination Chamber. We’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out in the end.
