Gunther made history on The Road To WrestleMania. Hailing from Vienna, Gunther signed with WWE NXT UK in 2019, but no one would’ve ever thought this 35-year-old talent would be among the finest Superstars to be produced by WWE in recent times. The Ring General is no stranger to making and breaking records, and he has added another feather to his cap en route to The Showcase Of Immortals.

Gunther just broke a significant record as WWE Intercontinental Champion, surpassing Shelton Benjamin’s 244-day reign with the title in 2004. The Ring General won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June 2022 and has since defended it seven times. The achievement has been acknowledged by WWE on Instagram, who stated that Gunther now holds the record for the longest Intercontinental Title reign of the 21st century.

With his 245+ day reign, Gunther has become one of the 10 longest-reigning Intercontinental Champions in WWE History. The Ring General now holds the #25 spot on the list of combined reigns as the WWE Intercontinental Champion. It is to be noted that this is Gunther’s maiden title run on the main roster.

At the Royal Rumble 2023, Gunther entered the Men’s Rumble bout at #1 and broke Rey Mysterio’s long-standing record by lasting 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 25 seconds in the ring. Gunther was eventually defeated by 30th entrant, Cody Rhodes, who won the Men’s Royal Rumble and punched his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 39.

In addition to this milestone, Gunther also holds the record for the longest NXT UK Championship reign at 870 days. Obviously, Triple H is a big fan of him as well.

Ultimately, Gunther’s run as Intercontinental Champion will stand as one of the greatest in the history of the sport, and he’ll go down as one of the most beloved champions in the eyes of fans. Congratulations to Gunther, who has set an example of hard work, dedication, and excellence that all aspiring wrestlers should strive to achieve.
