Jerry “The King” Lawler, a WWE Hall of Famer, was a staple of WWE television for many years and held a special place in the hearts of fans as the iconic voice of a generation. Although he is no longer a regular member of the WWE commentary team, he still makes occasional appearances. He also worried fans after suffering a stroke recently, but it seems Lawler is expected to make a recovery.
Jerry Lawler’s health struggles have been well-known to fans in recent years, including a near-fatal heart attack in 2012 while commentating on Monday Night RAW. Michael Cole had to hold down the fort in his absence as well.
As previously reported, the beloved pro wrestling legend was rushed to the hospital after suffering a stroke. In fact, Jerry Lawler experienced paralysis right before he suffered the stroke.
Lawler also underwent surgery after being transported to the hospital. While speaking to Commercial Appeal, Jerry Lawler’s friend and WMC-TV chief meteorologist Dave Brown provided an update on his condition.
“Some of the initial reports were just horrible, so I feel much better than I did 18 hours ago when I felt like I got hit in the face with a shovel.
I was incredibly encouraged after I did a FaceTime. Jerry was alert. He talked to me. He could only say a couple words at a time, which is pretty normal. But (he) was able to move both legs and both arms.”
Dutch Mantell also had similar thoughts, as he took to Twitter and provided an update of his own, adding that Jerry Lawler is expected to make a recovery after the shocking stroke.
Jerry Lawler’s charismatic and energetic commentary style earned him a place in the WWE booth for over two decades. In addition to his wrestling career, he has also pursued other business ventures, such as publishing comic books and operating professional wrestling-themed restaurants. We are glad he is doing well and wish for his speedy recovery. We’ll keep you updated on his ongoing health status.
